General Operation

Upon executing TigerSurf, you will be directed to enter the secure browser login password, which is TIGER (in all caps for this version). At that point, the browser will initialize on top of MS Internet Explorer at www.TigerTools.net, where you can obtain TigerSurf update information and version modification information.

The File menu, located at the top of the browser, supports the following options:

  • New browser window. Open a separate window with IE for standard Web exploration.
  • Open. Open a Web page file from your hard drive, floppy, or CD-ROM for viewing.
  • Save As. Save the current page as a Web page file to your hard or floppy drive.
  • Printer Setup. Configure current printer settings.
  • Print current page. Print the current page using current printer settings.
  • Exit and unload. Unload TigerSurf.

The Edit menu, at the top of the browser, supports these options:

  • Cut. Cut current text selection into Windows clipboard.
  • Copy. Copy current text selection into Windows clipboard.
  • Paste. Paste (cut or copied) text select from Windows clipboard.
  • HTML Editor. Load TigerSurf HTML editor.

From the View menu, at the top of the browser, the following options are supported:

  • Go to. Navigate to previous page, next page, homepage; or load TigerSearch.
  • Stop. Cease loading the current Web page.
  • Refresh. Reload the current Web page.
  • Source. View the source code for the current Web page.

From the Personal Links menu, at the top of the browser, these options are supported:

  • Add current page to personal links. Adds the current Web page to your favorite selections.
  • View personal links. Displays your personal links database, from which you can click a selection for quick navigation.

From the Options menu, at the top of the browser, the following choices are< offered:

  • Change Homepage. Changes your current homepage from TigerTools.net to an alternate preference.
  • Internet Properties. Displays your advanced Internet options.
  • Security Properties. Loads your custom TigerWatch settings; initializes/disables TigerBlock; and starts your personal security scanner.

Next on the TigerSurf toolbar is the Secure E-mail menu, but its options are not available in this version. Next to that is the Tools menu, which supports these:

  • TigerSearch the Internet. Loads TigerSearch as a separate module.
  • TigerTrack the market. Loads TigerTrack as a separate module.
  • Secure FTP. Loads the TigerSurf FTP client program.
  • Secure Telnet. Loads the TigerSurf telnet client program.
  • Screen Capture. Loads the TigerSurf screen capture utility.
  • Security Scan. Performs a self-system security scan.
  • TigerHTML. Loads the TigerSurf HTML editor.
  • TigerTalk. The real-time chat module is not available in this version.

From the Security menu, at the top of the browser, you can customize TigerWatch, enable/disable TigerBlock, and perform a self-system security scan. From the Help menu, next to Security, you can check for product updates, navigate to the TigerTools.net home page, and view the current Trojan and virus lists

The TigerSurf toolbar also features quick-start buttons for many of the menu items just described. These buttons are located on the right-hand side of the toolbar. Going from left to right, they perform the following functions: 

Enable/Disable security browsing with detrimental code blocking. This feature is inactive by default, but it is recommended to always keep this active.

  • Load TigerTrack.
  • oad FTP client.
  • oad Telnet client.
  • tart Screen Capture.
  • oad Image Viewer.
  • oad TigerHTML Editor.
  • tart TigerTalk (coming soon).
  • Start TigerSurf Secure E-mail (coming soon).

HTML Editor

With the TigerSurf HTML Editor, you can quickly create Web pages from a simple interface. The program supports the inclusion of images, paragraphs, links, forms, and the following tags:

  • HTML
  • body
  • Head
  • align
  • bullet
  • table
  • title

TigerWatch

TigerWatch is a custom port blocker and watcher to use at your discretion. TigerWatch is an advanced version of TigerGuard; it incorporates protection from most known/unknown Trojan services. The program allows you to add custom ports to the TigerSurf protection policy. You can also create, load, and save custom policy lists for future retrieval. In its current compilation, the daemon records, blocks, and alerts of remote hack attacks in conjunction with the policies you create. To start you off in the right direction, you can preload standard and default policy lists. By default, TigerWatch accepts up to 500 custom policies.

TigerWatch was not designed to be used unaccompanied by a personal firewall system, such as those mentioned throughout the book. TigerWatch was designed as an added security measure, to assure system lockdown from spoofed, local, or remote hack attacks.

TigerBlock

TigerBlock is a Web page control system for use by parents and other adult caregivers. Using TigerBlock, they can set the browser to preclude the viewing of certain pages, such as: adults-only Web sites and those containing illegal material. Upon activation, the following warning appears:

Warning: Site Forbidden, Access Denied

You were forwarded to this page because the company at which you are employed or the current legal guardian expressly, and in most cases, legally forbids entry to the Web site you attempted to access. Additionally, persons under 18 years of age and persons who may be offended by adult depictions may not directly or indirectly download, acquire, view, read, listen to, or possess any photograph, textual material, advertisement, or other communication, message, or other content at, in, or through the forbidden Web Site.

If you are under the age of 18 years, are offended by such materials, or are acting on behalf of any governmental agency, you are not authorized to download any materials from any such site, and all such downloading shall constitute intentional infringement of rights in such materials. 

Security Scan

Security Scan is a personal system port scanner with a simple user interface. As you know, scanning for exploitable security holes is done to to probe as many ports as possible, and to keep track of those that are receptive or useful to a particular hack attacker. This scanner program reports these receptive listeners, with a database of known hack methods or further explication.

TigerSearch

This module was developed as a quick, secure search engine scanner. To use it, simply enter in a keyword or keywords, check the results on the engines of your choice (from AltaVista, Excite, HotBot, InfoSeek, LookSmart, Lycos, Netscape, Thunderstone, and Yahoo!), and click the Search button. Moments later, the results module appears with easy tab navigation to each of the selected engines. Within each window, you can load a different site.

TigerTrack

TigerTrack is another simple interface, this one for tracking the stock market. This version of TigerSurf supports a single ticker search: all you have to do is enter in the symbol to view the current data via chart and/or graph.

Secure FTP

The TigerSurf Secure FTP client is a simple, secure interface module for LAN/WAN/Internet file transfer. The program supports anonymous, registered, and unknown login types.

Secure Telnet

The TigerSurf Secure Telnet client is a simple, secure interface module for LAN/WAN/Internet telnet access. The program supports custom telnet to any specified server/port. It also has the capability to trace connections for troubleshooting and advanced security.

Screen Capture

TigerSurf's Screen Capture feature is a user-friendly utility for quickly capturing graphic images from the Internet, programs, games, and more. The program supports captures from the entire screen, from forms, and from client areas; and capturing after a pause, as well as printing and saving images to your hard drive or floppy.

Image Viewer

TigerSurf's Image Viewer is an excellent utility for viewing images from a complete, generated thumbnail list. You can easily track and load images captured with TigerSurf Screen Capture or just about any other graphics program. What's more, this utility also allows you to load the selected image for quick editing.
